What a herbal peel does to your skin.
We work with the Ado herbal peel by Yellow Rose. That is a powder of ground freshwater sponge and algae, which we mix with a lotion containing nettle, papaya, aloe vera and citric acid, among other things. In the price list it's called Bio peel or herbal peel, and you may know it as a bio peel.
With a chemical peel an acid gel does the work, in a strength we build up. With the herbal peel we massage the mixture into your skin for a few minutes, and that wakes up your skin. Your circulation goes up and your skin is prompted to produce collagen and elastin, the fibres that keep your skin firm and resilient.
In the days after, the top layer comes away. At first your skin can look a little darker, and after three to four days it peels. Underneath is skin that feels satin-soft, with more elasticity.
Herbs sound gentle, yet this is an intensive treatment. So don't plan a party or an important appointment right after it.

What the herbal peel is chosen for.
This peel is often chosen for three skin conditions. With active spots we start with something else.
Acne scars
Small pits and an uneven texture, left over from spots in the past. Your skin is prompted to make new collagen and the top layer renews itself. More under acne scars.
Dull skin
A grey complexion is often caused by dead skin cells that stay put. Once they come away, your skin reflects the light better. See also dull skin.
Enlarged pores
On smoother skin enlarged pores stand out less, and this peel is often booked for that. Where they come from is explained under enlarged pores.
Active spots
Inflamed areas need to settle first. With blemish-prone skin we often start with cleansing and then move on to peels.
How a herbal peel goes in the salon.
You lie back for fifty minutes, and along the way we tell you what we're doing.
Looking and cleansing
We first check whether your skin is ready for an intensive peel today. Then we cleanse your skin thoroughly, so the mixture can work well.
Massaging in
We massage the mixture into your skin for a few minutes. It gets warm and starts to prickle, as if there are tiny needles in it. That's part of it, and it can last six to twelve hours.
Calming mask
After the stimulus of the massage, a calming mask lets your skin settle.
SPF and aftercare
We finish with SPF, because after a peel your skin is more sensitive to the sun. You get clear aftercare instructions for the days after.
Herbal peel or chemical peel and where microneedling fits.
All three take fifty minutes. They set your skin to work in a different way, and you notice that mainly in the days after.
| Topic | How it works | Often chosen for | The days after | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Herbal peel | Ground sponge, algae and herbs, massaged in for a few minutes | Acne scars, dull skin and enlarged pores | After three to four days your skin peels, until then no water or make-up | €79.00 |
| Chemical peel | Fruit acids or mandelic acid loosen dead skin cells, in a strength we build up | Dull skin, an uneven complexion, pigmentation and clogged pores | From nothing visible to a few days of light flaking | €69.00 to €89.00 |
| Microneedling | Fine needles of the Dermapen prompt your skin to repair and make collagen | Small scars, fine lines, firmness and pigmentation | One to two days red, preferably no make-up for two weeks | From €89.00 |
The chemical peels cost €69.00 for the First peel, €79.00 or €89.00 for the Glow peel and €89.00 for Mandelic acid. If in doubt, start with a first skin appointment.
What your skin does in the days after.
How much your skin comes away differs per skin and per time. What you do in those days largely determines the result.
The same day
Warm and prickling
Because of the massage your skin is red and warm, and up to twelve hours after the treatment it can prickle. After that your skin sometimes looks a little darker. That's part of it.
The first four days
Leave your skin alone
Until the peel is finished, you use no water, soap or other products on your face. Only sun protection is allowed, during the day. Also skip the sauna and the swimming pool, and intensive exercise on the first day.
Day three or four
Your skin comes away
Now your skin peels. Leave loose bits where they are and don't scrub, because then you remove skin that isn't ready yet.
After that
Satin-soft
Underneath is skin that feels satin-soft, with more elasticity. Protect that new layer every day with SPF, and leave acids and retinol alone for a while. A next herbal peel is possible after a month at the earliest.
When a herbal peel suits and when we wait.
An intensive peel asks for skin that is ready for it. We always look at that beforehand.
A good idea if
- You have acne scars and the spots themselves have settled.
- Your skin looks dull and feels rough, even though you look after it well.
- You have enlarged pores and want smoother skin.
- You can go four days without make-up, and your skin may visibly peel in that time.
Check with us first
- You have inflamed spots, small wounds or a cold sore. Those need to heal first. With acne that hurts, you see your GP first.
- You've just been in the sun or are going on a sunny holiday within two weeks. Then we'd rather schedule the peel later. The maker advises against it in summer and in months with a lot of sun, so autumn and winter are the best time.
- You use acids or retinol at home. Stop those a few days beforehand.
- You use isotretinoin or another strong medicine for your skin. Check with your doctor first.
- You're pregnant or breastfeeding. Then we don't do the herbal peel, just like the other peels. A mild, nourishing treatment is possible.
- Your skin is thin and sensitive or irritated, or you have couperose, eczema or psoriasis. Then we don't do this peel and choose something milder.
- You've just been waxed or had hair removed from your face in another way. Then don't plan the peel right after.
Good to know about a herbal peel.
Herbs can be intensive too
Herbs and algae sound gentle, yet your skin gets a strong stimulus. So plan the peel well ahead of an occasion, for a wedding at least two weeks.
Your skin can react to herbs too
Plant-based says little about how your skin reacts. If you have allergies or your skin reacts quickly, tell us beforehand. Then we check whether the peel suits you.
Leave peeling skin alone
Pulling or scrubbing feels like helping, yet you then remove skin that hasn't come loose yet. That leaves red, sensitive patches.
Your new skin layer needs SPF every day
After a peel your skin is more sensitive to UV, and UVA gets through the clouds on grey days too. More about that under sun protection.
Where we stop and the doctor begins.
The herbal peel is a cosmetic treatment for the top layer of your skin. Deep scars, inflamed acne that hurts and skin conditions such as eczema or rosacea belong with your GP or dermatologist first. If you're under medical treatment, we're happy to look at what we can do for you alongside it.

What does a herbal peel cost in Enschede?
At Moons Beauty in Enschede the herbal peel costs €79.00, for fifty minutes with a calming mask and SPF included. You pay afterwards in the salon, by card or in cash.
Does a herbal peel hurt?
While it's massaged in, your skin gets warm and starts to prickle, as if there are tiny needles in it. That feeling can last up to twelve hours. If it gets too much during the treatment, say so straight away.
Will I peel after a herbal peel?
Yes, usually after three to four days: then the top layer of your skin comes away by itself. How much of that you see differs per skin. Leave loose bits where they are, and keep water, soap and make-up off your face for those first four days.
How often should I have a herbal peel?
There is at least a month between two herbal peels, and you have it at most four times a year. How often makes sense for you, we agree after the first time, once we see how your skin reacts. You pay per session each time.
Does a herbal peel help with acne scars?
It is often chosen for acne scars. Your skin is prompted to produce collagen and elastin, and the top layer renews itself. What is achievable for your scars, we discuss beforehand. Deep scars belong with the dermatologist, and for the texture we also look at microneedling.
Can I have a herbal peel if I'm pregnant?
No. For the Ado herbal peel, pregnancy is a reason not to use it, so we postpone it until after your pregnancy. While breastfeeding we wait too, just like with the other peels. Mild, nourishing treatments are possible. More under skincare during your pregnancy.
What shouldn't I do after a herbal peel?
For four days you use no water, soap or other products on your face, only sun protection. In those days also skip the sauna and the swimming pool, and heavy exercise on the first day. Leave loose bits where they are and don't scrub. After that you protect your face every day with SPF.
