Blackheads and blockages out, in 45 or 60 minutes.

In brief

  • In a facial cleanse we empty blocked pores. After mild acids and steam we remove blackheads and impurities by hand.
  • The Quick cleansing takes 45 minutes and costs €59.00. The Full cleansing takes an hour and costs €75.00, with a cooling mask and a short massage included.
  • You can get straight on with your day. For maintenance you come once every four to six weeks.
  • If spots are your main concern, the Acne treatment is a better fit. If your skin mainly feels tight, have a look at the Hydra treatment.

What a deep cleanse does that you cannot do at home.

At home you cleanse the surface of your skin. What is stuck in your pores, a plug of sebum and dead skin cells, a cleanser will not get out. In a facial cleanse we first soften that plug and then remove it by hand.

A cleanse suits anyone with blackheads or pores that fill up quickly, and especially oily skin or combination skin. Empty pores look finer straight away, even though their size stays the same. How that works is explained under enlarged pores.

If the blackheads come back quickly after every cleanse, or if spots are your main concern, there is usually more going on. What may be playing a part is explained under blemish-prone skin.

Quick or Full cleansing, side by side.

With both we double cleanse, work in mild acids and steam your skin. The difference lies in the time for extractions and in the finish.

A hydrojelly mask is a cool gel mask that calms your skin after extractions. If in doubt, book the facial on advice. You then pay the price of the treatment we choose together.

Step by step, from cleansing to cream.

Extractions only come after the preparation, because the softer your skin, the more easily a blockage gives way.

  1. A short check

We look at how your skin is doing and where the blockages are. Inflamed spots we skip.

  2. Double cleanse

The first round dissolves make-up and sunscreen. In the second we cleanse your skin itself, so that the acids then work evenly everywhere.

  3. Mild acids

We work in mild acids. These loosen the dead skin cells that sit like a lid on your pores.

  4. Warm steam

The steam makes your skin supple and the sebum in your pores soft. What was stuck then comes away much more easily.

  5. Extractions by hand

We remove blackheads and impurities by hand. In the Full cleansing there is more time for this.

  6. Calming and finishing

In the Quick cleansing, serum and day cream follow, and a mask if you like. In the Full cleansing you get the hydrojelly mask, a short massage and a hydrating finish.

Which treatment suits your skin?

Look mainly at what bothers your skin most right now. You will find all facials side by side under facial.

  • Quick cleansing

You want clean pores in a short time, for example between two busy days. Or it is your first visit and you want to see how a cleanse goes with us.

  • Full cleansing

You have lots of blackheads, oily or combination skin, and little inflammation. Thanks to the mask and the massage you also go home relaxed.

  • Acne treatment

Your skin is unsettled, with spots among the blackheads. After the extractions, LED therapy calms your skin. See the Acne treatment.

  • Hydra treatment

Your skin feels tight or stiff, and blackheads are the least of your worries. Hyaluronic acid replenishes moisture, and we only extract where needed. See the Hydra treatment.

Why you had better not squeeze blackheads yourself.

In front of the mirror the temptation is great, and almost everyone does it now and then. At home you press on skin that has not been prepared: the sebum is hard and the pore is still closed. Some of it comes out, the rest you push deeper into your skin.

You see that in the days after. The spot turns red and swollen, and a dark mark can remain that is visible for months. On darker skin that takes even longer. Anyone who keeps squeezing the same spot can also be left with a small pit.

In the salon we first soften your skin with mild acids and steam, and we leave inflamed spots alone. At home you cleanse gently twice a day. Feel free to ask us about salicylic acid, which dissolves in sebum and therefore works inside the pore itself.

After your cleanse, today and the weeks after.

  1. Straight after

    Clean and smooth

Your skin feels fresh and your pores are empty. Where we have worked, your skin may be red for a few hours. You can go straight back to work.

  2. The rest of the day

    Rest for your pores

Better to skip make-up, and leave exercise and the sauna until tomorrow. Sweat and heat can irritate your freshly emptied pores.

  3. The first weeks

    Sometimes another spot

What sat deep under your skin can still surface in the weeks after. Leave it alone and it will clear by itself.

  4. After 4 to 6 weeks

    Time for the next one

By then your skin has renewed itself about once. For maintenance this is a good moment for your next cleanse.

When a cleanse is right and when we talk it through first.

A good idea if

  • You have blackheads or pores that keep filling up.
  • Your skin gets shiny quickly and your pores fill up mainly in your T-zone.
  • You want clean skin without downtime, for example a few days before an occasion.
  • It is your first time at a beauty therapist and you want a gentle introduction.

Check with us first

  • Active, inflamed spots. We do not extract those. If you have many, the Acne treatment is a better fit. Deep, painful spots should be seen by your GP first.
  • Sensitive skin that reddens easily. Then we keep the extractions short, or choose the Redness treatment.
  • Acids or retinol at home. Stop a few days beforehand.
  • Just been in the sun or on the sunbed. Let us know, then we work more gently.
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding. A cleanse is perfectly fine, we just leave out certain active ingredients.

Good to know about a facial cleanse.

  • Grey dots on your nose are often sebaceous filaments

Sebaceous filaments are thin strands in your pores along which sebum flows out. Everyone has them. After a cleanse they are less visible for a while, then they fill up again, and that is how it should be.

  • Cold water does not close your pores

There is no muscle around a pore, so it cannot contract. Cold water feels fresh, and afterwards your pore is just as big as before. It only looks smaller once it is empty.

  • After a cleanse, pores fill up again

Your skin keeps producing sebum, so after a few weeks your pores are fuller again. To keep them clear for longer, a chemical peel helps.

  • A cleanse works in any season

For peels we prefer autumn and winter, because your skin catches less sun then. A cleanse can be done all year round.

Frequently asked questions about facial cleanse

How much does a facial cleanse cost in Enschede?

At Moons Beauty the 45-minute Quick cleansing costs €59.00 and the one-hour Full cleansing €75.00. You pay afterwards in the salon, by card or in cash.

Can I have blackheads removed at Moons?

Yes, that is the core of both cleanses. After the mild acids and the steam we remove blackheads and impurities by hand. We take our time over it, because haste and too much pressure show up later as red marks.

Does a facial cleanse hurt?

The extractions can be a little tender, the rest of the appointment is calm. Because your skin is softened first, blockages give way more easily. If it gets too much, just say so.

How often should I have my face cleansed?

For maintenance, once every four to six weeks works well. If you have lots of blackheads, we schedule the first two cleanses a little closer together.

Can I go straight back to work after a facial cleanse?

Yes. Only where we have worked, your skin may be red for a few hours. Make-up, exercise and the sauna are best left for that day, and the day after anything goes again.

Is a facial cleanse also for men?

Yes, facials are for everyone. Many men have skin that produces more sebum, and we adjust the extractions to that.
