The treatment chair at Moons Beauty

In brief

  • Your hair needs to be at least five millimetres long. That's usually ten to fourteen days after your last shave.
  • Count on three to four weeks of smooth skin. With regular waxing the hair often grows back finer.
  • You book per zone, from upper lip to upper legs. On your face we use a softer wax than on your body.
  • A facial zone costs from €8.00, and body zones start at €18.50. We do body waxing for women only.

Five millimetres and the rest takes care of itself.

Most disappointments with waxing come down to hair that's too short. The wax has to be able to grip the hair, and below about five millimetres it slides over the top. Then a lot gets left behind and you've been in the chair for nothing. So let your hair grow for ten to fourteen days and don't shave just beforehand. That feels long, but you only have to do it once. After that you're in the rhythm.

Scrub lightly the day before. That removes the dead skin cells lying over the hairs, so the wax grips better and you're less likely to get ingrown hairs. Otherwise, come with clean skin, without thick body lotion or oil on it.

It's better to plan your appointment outside the days when your skin is extra sensitive. Many people notice that waxing feels more sensitive around their period. Feel free to move your appointment by a few days then, it makes a difference.

Face and body call for something different.

On your face we work more precisely and with a softer wax than on your legs or back. That's why the times differ too.

Good to know about waxing

  • After waxing your hair often grows back finer

The feeling of thicker hair comes from shaving. What grows back then is a hair cut straight across, and that feels coarse. After waxing the hair grows back with a tip, and with regular waxing it often actually gets finer.

  • The first time is the most sensitive

It's briefly sensitive, especially the first time and on the bikini line and underarms. It's a matter of seconds per strip. The times after that are clearly easier, because the hair grows back thinner.

  • Give your skin a day's rest after waxing

Right after waxing your skin is open and warm. So skip the sauna, the sunbed, the swimming pool and hard exercise on the first day, otherwise you risk bumps and irritation.

  • Ingrown hairs can usually be prevented

From a few days after the treatment, scrub twice a week and keep your skin supple with a body lotion. Then the hair comes through more easily.

The first day and the weeks after.

Waxing is over in no time, but what you do in the first few days determines how your skin looks.

  1. First 24 hours

    Leave your skin alone

Skip the sauna, the sunbed, the swimming pool and intensive exercise, and preferably wear nothing tight or chafing over the waxed zone. A little redness is part of it and usually fades within a few hours.

  2. Days 3 to 4

    Start scrubbing

From now on, scrub lightly twice a week. That's the most important step against ingrown hairs, and it takes you a minute in the shower.

  3. Weeks 2 and 3

    The first hairs come back

Hairs don't all grow at the same pace, so you see them come back in phases. It's better not to shave in between. Otherwise you'll have hair of different lengths at your next appointment and the wax grips less well.

  4. Week 4

    Time for the next one

For most people the hair is exactly long enough after four weeks. If you keep up that rhythm, the hair growth often becomes thinner and sparser over time.

When it's fine and when we talk it through first.

A good idea if

  • You're fed up with shaving every day and want to be set for weeks.
  • You want the hair on your face removed without it growing back coarse.
  • You're going on holiday and want everything sorted in one appointment beforehand.
  • You get razor bumps or irritation from the blade.

Check with us first

  • If you use a product that makes your skin thinner or more sensitive, such as a strong retinol or an acid, stop using it for a few days around the zone we wax. If you use skin medication, tell us beforehand, so we can look together at what's possible. You only stop medication in consultation with your doctor.
  • If you're freshly sunburnt or tanned from the sunbed, we wait a while, because your skin damages more easily then.
  • We don't wax areas with small wounds, eczema or an inflammation.
  • If you've just had a peel or microneedling, we leave time in between before we wax in the same zone. We'll tell you beforehand how long.
  • We do body waxing for women only. The facial zones are open to everyone.

Frequently asked questions about waxing

How long does my hair need to be for waxing?

At least five millimetres. That is usually ten to fourteen days after shaving. If your hair is shorter, the wax does not grip it properly.

Which zones can I book?

On your face we wax the upper lip, chin, jaw, neck and cheeks, or everything in one go with Full Face. On your body you choose from underarms, forearms and upper arms, lower and upper legs, lower and upper back and the bikini line. Each zone on your body takes around twenty minutes.

Can I book body waxing as a man?

No, body waxing at Moons Beauty is for women only.

How long does my skin stay smooth?

Three to four weeks on average, depending on your hair growth. If you wax regularly, the hair often grows back finer.

Does waxing hurt?

It can be tender for a moment. We work quickly and carefully, so it stays as comfortable as possible. The first time feels more intense than the times after that.

How long does my hair need to be for waxing?

At least five millimetres, so usually ten to fourteen days after your last shave. If it's shorter, the wax doesn't grip the hair properly and a lot gets left behind.

How often should I come back?

About every four weeks. By then the hair is long enough again. The more consistently you keep to that rhythm, the finer the hair usually grows back.

What can I do about ingrown hairs?

From a few days after the treatment, scrub lightly twice a week and keep your skin supple with a body lotion. That works best by far. Don't shave in between, because that's exactly what causes them.

Can I exercise or go to the sauna after waxing?

Skip that on the first day, along with the sunbed and the swimming pool. Your skin is still open, and heat and sweat then bring on bumps and irritation more quickly.

Can I combine waxing with a facial?

Often yes, just not always in the same zone and not straight after a peel or microneedling. WhatsApp us beforehand, and we'll plan the skin treatment and the waxing in the right order.

Can I book body waxing as a man?

No, body waxing at Moons Beauty is for women only. You're welcome for the facial zones, though.
