What the Acne treatment does for your skin.
The Acne treatment is our treatment for breakout-prone skin, with pores that keep filling up and spots that return in the same places. In fifty minutes we empty your pores and then settle your skin.
The name says acne, yet the treatment is mainly meant for the stage before that, with congestion and the odd spot. If there are many inflamed areas at once, deep and painful, a doctor looks at them first.
Where the breakouts come from is explained under blemish-prone skin. If your skin gets shiny quickly, also have a look at oily skin.
Fifty minutes, step by step.
The extraction itself is only one step. The rest makes it easier or settles your skin.
Seeing how your skin is doing
We look at where the congestion is and which spots are inflamed. We skip inflamed areas and work around them.
Cleansing twice
A first cleanse removes make-up and sunscreen, a second cleans the skin itself. That way the peel works evenly everywhere.
A mild peel
The peel loosens dead skin cells that seal your pores. That way a blockage comes out more easily later on.
Steam
The steam softens your skin and the oil in your pores. Blockages then come loose, and we need to press less hard.
Removing impurities
We gently remove blackheads and blockages, without damaging your skin. We go pore by pore, at a calm pace.
LED therapy, mask and cream
Finally we calm your skin with LED therapy, a mask and a cream. At most, the light feels gently warm.
Acne treatment, cleanse or peel?
Extractions help your skin today, a peel helps it in the weeks after. We often do both, in that order.
| Topic | Duration | Price | What it does | Who it's for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Acne treatment | 50 minutes | €75.00 | Extractions after a peel and steam, then calming with LED | Breakout-prone skin with blackheads and spots |
| Full cleansing | 60 minutes | €75.00 | Thorough extractions, with a hydrojelly mask and a short massage | Lots of blackheads and little inflammation |
| First peel 10% | 50 minutes | €69.00 | Fruit acids keep your pores open from the top | Anyone who wants a gentle start with acids |
| Mandelic acid 30% | 50 minutes | €89.00 | Mandelic acid works more gently than glycolic acid, also on pigmentation | Sensitive or darker skin |
LED therapy is already included in the Acne treatment. With a peel you can add twenty minutes of LED, for €20.00.
What you notice, straight away and in the weeks after.
Your skin renews itself in about four weeks, and that rhythm determines when you see what.
Straight after
Clean, and red here and there
Your pores are empty. Where we have done extractions, your skin can be red for a few hours, so it's better to skip make-up, exercise and the sauna that day.
Weeks 1 to 3
Sometimes something still surfaces
What was already under your skin can still come out, in your usual places. That's called purging and it clears up by itself. If spots appear where you never had any, let us know.
After 6 to 8 weeks
Fewer new blackheads
After two or three treatments your pores fill up more slowly. A photo from your first appointment helps, because such a gradual difference is easy to miss in the mirror.
After the course
Keeping it calm
After that, a treatment every six to eight weeks is usually enough. If marks remain where spots were, we tackle those later.
When a peel or microneedling comes next.
With the Acne treatment we empty your pores. To keep them clear for longer afterwards, a chemical peel is the next step: fruit acids loosen the dead skin cells that keep sealing a pore again and again. We make that switch as soon as your skin is calmer.
We usually start with the First peel 10%, a mild introduction to fruit acids. If your skin is sensitive or darker, or marks remain after spots, we begin with Mandelic acid 30%. Mandelic acid has larger molecules and therefore works more gently.
After a spot, a red or brown mark often remains. That's discolouration, and it fades by itself over the months that follow. With a pitted scar, the structure of your skin has changed. We only work on that once the inflammation has passed, with stronger peels or microneedling. There's more about this under acne scars.
Is the Acne treatment right for your skin?
The treatment suits most breakout-prone skins. There are a few things we'd like to know beforehand.
A good idea if
- You have blackheads and clogged pores that keep coming back.
- You regularly get spots and want to stop squeezing them yourself.
- Your skin is blemish-prone and has become drier at the same time. Then we combine it with hydration.
- Your skin produces a lot of oil, as is often the case in men. Then the cleanse can be more thorough.
Check with us first
- Deep, painful spots or lumps under your skin. Your GP looks at those first.
- Medication for your skin. Tell us beforehand, because then we work more gently or wait a while.
- Acids or retinol at home. Stop using them a few days before your appointment.
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding. Then we opt for a mild cleanse.
- A teenager who wants to come. Just WhatsApp us beforehand.
Good to know for home, between two appointments.
Between two appointments your routine does the work. We'll tell you which products suit your skin.
A mild cleanser keeps your skin calmer
Foaming cleansers and toners with alcohol feel fresh, and afterwards your skin actually produces more oil. Cleanse gently twice a day.
Squeezing keeps marks visible for longer
Squeezing feels like clearing up, yet part of the contents ends up deeper in your skin. The inflammation grows there, and then a dark mark or a pitted scar is more likely to remain.
Introduce new products one at a time
Give each product four weeks, then you know where a reaction comes from. Use salicylic acid or retinol in consultation with us.
Sun protection is part of every day
An area that was just inflamed darkens more quickly in the sun, and such a mark stays for months. Choose a light sun protection with SPF 30, even when it's cloudy.
See your GP first with inflamed acne.
If your spots are inflamed and painful, you feel lumps under your skin or spots leave pitted scars, see your GP or dermatologist first. The same applies if you use medication for your skin, such as isotretinoin, a course of antibiotics or a prescription cream. Whether a treatment is possible then is something you discuss with your doctor first. If your skin weighs heavily on your mood, your GP is also a good first step. If you're under treatment with your doctor, we align what we do with that.

How much does an acne treatment cost in Enschede?
At Moons Beauty the Acne treatment costs €75.00, for fifty minutes. The LED therapy and the mask are included. You pay afterwards in the salon, by card or in cash.
Does removing spots and blackheads hurt?
It can be tender, especially where a lot is stuck. Thanks to the peel and the steam, blockages come out more easily. If it gets too much, say so and we'll adjust the pressure.
How often should I have an acne treatment?
Usually four to six times, every four weeks. If a lot is stuck at the start, we schedule the first two appointments closer together. After that, a treatment every six to eight weeks is enough for most people.
Can I have an acne treatment if I take medication for my skin?
Always tell us beforehand. With isotretinoin, a course of antibiotics or a strong prescription cream your skin is more vulnerable, so then we work more gently or wait a while. If in doubt, check with your doctor first.
Does the treatment also help with acne scars?
Pitted scars that are already there don't change with the Acne treatment. For those there are stronger peels and microneedling, and we only start on those once the inflammation has passed. There's more under acne scars.
What's the difference between this and a facial cleanse?
In both we remove blockages. The Acne treatment adds a mild peel and LED therapy, for breakout-prone skin. A facial cleanse is a better fit for lots of blackheads and little inflammation.
