In brief

  • With henna we tint your hairs and the skin beneath. That fills in sparse patches and makes your brows look fuller.
  • On your skin the colour lasts up to about two weeks, on the hairs up to about seven weeks.
  • Henna sits on your skin and fades by itself, unlike permanent make-up.
  • At Moons it costs €38.00, with shaping, waxing and aftercare included.

Why henna looks fuller than tint.

Henna is a plant-based dye. We apply it to your brows and let it develop for a while. Henna colours two things at once: the hairs and the skin beneath. Ordinary brow tint only takes on the hairs, so patches without hair stay bare. With henna it is exactly those patches that get colour, and that is why your brows look fuller.

Compare it with the difference between mascara and eyeliner. The hairs become darker and a soft shadow appears on the skin, filling in the shape of your brows. Straight after the treatment the colour is at its strongest. In the days after it softens, until only the hairs are still tinted.

Henna is something quite different from permanent make-up (PMU). The colour sits on your skin, we do not use needles and a year from now there is nothing left to see. We do not do microblading or powder brows. Henna fades by itself, so if you do not like it, it is gone within two weeks.

Henna, hybrid or tint which suits your brows?

They differ in how much colour is left on your skin. That determines how full your brows look and how long the colour lasts.

We do not do henna and lamination in the same appointment. Your skin has just been treated and takes the colour unevenly. A week later henna is fine.

When henna is the best choice.

Henna does the most for brows where something is missing. If you have lots of unruly hairs instead, a lift is a better fit.

A good idea if

  • Your brows have sparse patches or have become thin at the outer ends. If you are growing them out after years of plucking, read growing out your brows.
  • You fill in your brows every morning with pencil or powder.
  • You want to see how a fuller shape suits you, before you ever consider permanent make-up.
  • You have light hairs that disappear completely in photos.
  • You are going on holiday and want a few weeks of not having to do anything.

Check with us first

  • A previous reaction to hair dye or brow tint. Mention it when booking, then we test beforehand. You can react to a plant-based dye too.
  • Oily skin. The colour fades faster on it, although the hairs hold it just fine.
  • Scrubs, acids and retinol on your face. These lift the colour off your skin sooner, so work around them for those two weeks.
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding. Shaping is always possible, the colour we decide on together.
  • Irritated or damaged skin. We do not apply henna to it.

Half an hour from cleansing to removal.

Most of the time goes into the preparation. That is where the difference lies between an even and a patchy colour.

  1. Deciding the shape

We first look at your face and your natural growth, and then we agree the shape together. With henna this matters even more than with tint, because the colour on your skin really shows that shape.

  2. Degreasing the skin

We thoroughly cleanse the skin under your brows. Oil or a trace of make-up makes the colour take unevenly, and you then see that for two weeks.

  3. Applying the henna and letting it develop

We apply the paste to your brows and leave it on for a number of minutes. The longer it sits, the deeper the colour. While you wait, all you feel is a cool layer.

  4. Removing, shaping and caring

We remove the henna and use wax and tweezers to take away whatever falls outside the line. Then we apply care to your skin. You see the result straight away, and over the first days it softens a little more.

How to keep the colour as long as possible.

The first 24 hours matter most. After that it mainly comes down to not scrubbing.

  1. First 24 hours

    Keep it dry

Keep your brows dry and do not rub them, so no steam or sauna for now either. During this period the colour sets in your skin. Leave make-up off your brows that day too.

  2. Days 2 to 5

    It softens

On the first day the colour is at its strongest, then it settles to its natural level. If your brows look fuller than you are used to straight after the appointment, do not be alarmed. That evens out.

  3. Weeks 1 and 2

    The skin slowly lets go

Every time you cleanse your face, a little comes off. Keep oil off your brows and keep scrubs and acids away from them. Then the colour lasts the full two weeks.

  4. Weeks 3 to 7

    Only the hairs now

Your skin has its own colour back, the hairs stay dark. Many clients book a short shaping appointment around week four. They book the henna again once the hairs fade too.

Good to know about henna brows.

  • You can react to plant-based henna too

Someone can react to a natural dye as well. If you have ever had a reaction to hair dye or brow tint, let us know. Then we test beforehand.

  • On your skin henna lasts about two weeks

On oily skin that is shorter. On the hairs the colour lasts longer, up to about seven weeks. If you are looking for something that lasts months, you end up at permanent make-up, and we do not do that.

  • Henna can also turn out very soft

That depends on the shape we agree and on how long the paste stays on. If you want a soft result, say so beforehand. Then we keep the line a little more open.

  • After henna you can simply go back to tint

They are separate treatments, so you choose afresh each time. Some clients have henna for the summer and for the rest of the year just have their brows tinted.

Frequently asked questions about henna brows

How much do henna brows cost in Enschede?

At Moons henna brows cost €38.00 and the treatment takes half an hour. Shaping, waxing and aftercare are included in the price. You pay afterwards in the salon.

How long does henna last on my brows?

On your skin up to about two weeks, on the hairs up to about seven weeks. On oily skin the colour on the skin disappears faster, and scrubs or acids speed that up too.

What is the difference between henna brows and an ordinary tint?

Tint only colours your hairs, henna also colours the skin beneath. That fills in sparse patches and makes your brows look fuller. If you want the most natural result, tint is the better choice.

Are henna brows the same as permanent make-up?

No. With permanent make-up, colour is placed under your skin, and it stays visible for years. Henna sits on your skin and fades within two weeks. We do not do permanent make-up, microblading or powder brows.

Can I have henna and brow lamination in one appointment?

No. After a lamination your skin has just been treated and takes the colour unevenly. Plan the henna a week later, then the colour comes out even.

Is henna suitable if I have never had anything done to my brows?

Yes, it is a nice first step. For two weeks you see how a fuller shape suits you and you are not tied to anything. If you do not like it, it disappears by itself.

How often can I have henna done?

As soon as the colour on your skin has gone, you can have it again. Most clients book it every two to four weeks if they want to keep the colour on the skin, or once every six weeks together with shaping.
