What happens during a facial?
A facial starts with a look at your skin. Then we cleanse, empty clogged pores after mild acids and steam, and calm your skin again with a mask and a cream. After 45 to 75 minutes you're back outside, with skin that feels clean and calm.
At Moons there is no separate treatment for men. What we do, we tailor to your skin: skin that makes a lot of sebum gets a more thorough cleanse, and skin that feels tight gets more moisture.
You don't need to prepare anything. It's better to shave the day before than right before your appointment, so your skin isn't freshly irritated.
What is different about men's skin.
The structure is the same, and yet a few things come up more often in men.
More sebum
Men's skin makes more sebum on average. Pores fill up faster and your nose and forehead get shiny sooner. That's why the cleanse can be more thorough.
Thicker skin
Men's skin is slightly thicker and firmer on average. That helps as you get older, and it's also one reason pores look bigger.
Shaving
Shaving every day is a small irritation for your skin. Ingrown hairs, bumps and spots get mixed up as a result.
Sun and the outdoors
If you're outside a lot, you see lines and marks sooner. For men, sun protection is just as much a part of every day.

Ingrown hairs and razor bumps.
A shaved hair has a sharp tip. If it curls back into the skin, or keeps growing underneath a layer of dead skin cells, a red bump appears. It looks like a spot, but it's an ingrown hair.
Shave in the direction of hair growth, with a sharp blade and shaving gel, and exfoliate lightly a few times a week. A facial cleanse clears the skin, so hairs can grow out more easily.
An inflamed bump that hurts is best left alone. If it doesn't go away or keeps coming back, have your GP take a look.
