Lower legs, upper legs or both.

We wax your legs in two parts. Lower legs go from your ankle to your knee, upper legs from your knee to the top of your thigh. Each part takes about twenty minutes. If you want full legs, book them together. Then we plan enough time for both straight away.

Lower legs are the area booked most often, especially heading into summer. That is where you notice hairs first, with a skirt, shorts or bare ankles in your sandals.

A leg wax and leg waxing are two words for the same thing. The wax pulls the hair out root and all, from the follicle it grows in. That is why you stay smooth for weeks, whereas after shaving you soon feel stubble again. Add your underarms or bikini line and you are ready for summer in one appointment.

From shaving to waxing step by step.

The first time takes a little patience, because your hair needs to be long enough first. You only have to do that once.

  1. 10 to 14 days before

    Stop shaving

The hair needs to be at least five millimetres long, otherwise the wax slides over it. If you want to be smooth before your holiday, book your appointment first and count back from there.

  2. The day before

    A light scrub

A light scrub removes the dead skin cells lying over the hairs, so the wax grips better. Come with clean skin, without thick body lotion or oil.

  3. First 24 hours

    Something loose

Skip the sauna, sunbed, swimming pool and hard exercise. Tight jeans or leggings rub on freshly waxed skin, so choose loose trousers or a skirt.

  4. Weeks 2 and 3

    Hairs in phases

Your hair does not all grow at the same time, so you see it come back in phases. Do not shave in between, or you will end up with hairs of different lengths.

  5. Week 4

    In the rhythm

After about four weeks the hair is long enough again. Keep to that rhythm and it is always at the right length by itself, and it often grows back finer.

Preventing ingrown hairs on your legs.

An ingrown hair curls back under your skin instead of growing through it. On your legs you mostly see them where clothing rubs.

  • Scrub twice a week

Start a few days after your appointment and scrub lightly in the shower. That removes the dead skin cells a new hair can get stuck under.

  • Moisturise your legs

A body lotion keeps your skin supple. Through supple skin a hair finds its way out more easily.

  • Do not shave in between

Shaving is exactly what causes ingrown hairs, because a cut hair curls back into the skin more easily.

  • Do not squeeze them

Squeezing pushes an inflammation deeper, and that can leave a dark mark behind. That is another way pigmentation can develop.

Good for your legs and when we wait first.

A good idea if

  • You shave your legs every few days and are fed up with it.
  • The razor gives you bumps, red dots or itching.
  • You are going on holiday and want three to four weeks without thinking about it.

Check with us first

  • Varicose veins. We do not wax an area with varicose veins, so mention it when booking.
  • Small wounds, eczema or an inflammation on your legs. We skip those spots.
  • Sunburnt or just been on the sunbed. Then we wait a little, because your skin damages more easily. One more reason to protect your legs properly in the sun.
  • A cream with retinol or acids on your legs. Stop using it a few days beforehand. If you take medication that makes your skin more sensitive, mention it at your appointment.

Good to know about leg waxing.

  • A few hairs after a week is normal

Not every hair grows at the same time. If you see a few hairs after a week, they were usually still under your skin at your appointment. We catch them at the next appointment.

  • On your legs it is usually not too bad

Underarms and the bikini line are more sensitive than your legs. The first time is the most sensitive, and the times after that are clearly easier.

  • Often your lower legs are enough

If you mostly wear skirts or dresses to below the knee, only your lower legs show. For swimwear or shorts you book the upper legs as well.

Varicose veins or an inflammation belong with your GP.

We do not wax an area with varicose veins, eczema, small wounds or an inflammation. If an ingrown hair turns red, warm and painful, or does not clear up by itself after a few days, see your GP. If you are being treated for your legs, ask your doctor first whether waxing is possible.

Frequently asked questions about leg waxing

What does leg waxing cost in Enschede?

At Moons, lower legs cost €25.00 and upper legs €25.00. Each part takes about twenty minutes, and for full legs you book both. You pay afterwards in the salon.

How long do my legs stay smooth after waxing?

Three to four weeks, depending on how fast your hair grows. If you wax regularly, the hair often grows back finer.

How long does the hair on my legs need to be?

At least five millimetres, usually ten to fourteen days after your last shave. If it is shorter, the wax does not grip it properly and hairs get left behind.

Is a leg wax the same as leg waxing?

Yes, they are two words for the same thing. In both cases the hair comes out root and all. At Moons we call it waxing.

Does leg waxing hurt?

It is briefly sensitive, especially the first time, though on your legs it is usually not too bad. We work quickly and carefully, and afterwards we apply soothing care.

Can I have my legs waxed as a man?

No, body waxing at Moons is for women only. Having your face waxed is possible, because the facial areas are for everyone.
